I started trading at 18, in the second year of college. Like every Indian beginner, I chased options. Margin. Leverage. Tips. Adrenaline.
For a while it worked. A few early wins on leverage, and I thought I had it all figured out.
Then in one stretch of options trades, I lost ₹11 Lakhs. Everything. Gone.
I opened my trading journal. Read every entry. The truth was brutal — I had no system. No edge. No risk control. I was gambling with charts.
That night I found Mark Minervini's book. Then William O'Neil. Then Jesse Livermore. They had ONE thing in common — they traded cash equities, breakouts, compression patterns, and they treated risk like religion.
I stopped options completely. Switched to cash and futures. Learned position sizing. Learned to lose 1-2% instead of 50%. Today I run a tight, rule-based book — small fixed losses, disciplined position sizing, and the patience to let winners run— the math that compounds for a lifetime.
